She was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and later moved to Northern California, where she attended college. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Santa Clara University, and a Master of Arts in the Humanities from the University of Chicago. Her first published novel, All Unquiet Things, started as her creative thesis for her Master’s. In 2007, she moved to New York City to work in the publishing industry, and has built her career doing digital marketing for children’s books. She is currently the director of digital marketing at a major publishing house, and her sixth YA novel, Breath Like Water, which is partly inspired by her experience swimming competitively throughout her childhood and teenage years, releases on May 19, 2020.
